“Anarchists” Demand $3 Billion From Google For “Anti-Capitalist Housing”

dont be evil

Anti-capitalist “anarchist” group Counterforce protested in front of the home of venture capitalist Kevin Rose – Digg founder and Google Ventures partner – on Sunday and demanded Google pay them $3 billion for housing, because entrepreneurs and capitalists are “scum.” Their chief complaint is that techies and new-business hopefuls flock to the area looking for success. Counterforce states that this forces low-income workers to stay at their low-income jobs or even move out of the city and commute to their low-income jobs where they “perform menial tasks for the entitled scum who drove them out in the first place.” Basically, they are demanding money because other people are successful.

What does the organization want with the $3 billion? According to the group’s press release they want to never ever pay rent ever again. The release states, “no one will ever have to pay rent and housing will be free. With this three billion from Google, we will solve the housing crisis in the Bay Area and prove to the world that an anarchist world is not only possible but in fact irrepressible.” This free housing will naturally be “autonomous, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist.”

Except that demanding others pay for your stuff with threats of castration is in direct violation of the non-aggression principle. They also clearly do not understand economics. Or anarchy.

The group is targeting Google, especially, as they lament that technology is misogynistic and exploits society. They chose Kevin Rose in particular, as he is a “parasite” and “leech.” According to flyers the group handed out at the protest, Rose is destroying the city of San Francisco through investing in start-up businesses.

So what will happen if Google doesn’t comply? Counterforce warns Google, “get ready for a revolution neither you nor we can control, a revolution that will spread to all of the poor, exploited, and degraded members of this new tech-society and be directed towards you for your bad decisions and irresponsible activities. We advise you to take us seriously.”

In January, the group staged a protest at the home of Anthony Levandowski, a Google employee who works on the company’s self-driving car project. They stated that the project was secretly propping up the surveillance state.

If you’re feeling overly sympathetic, you can contact the group at their WordPress.com blog, aptly named “Kevin Rose is a Terrible Person.”

In a touch of irony, not only are they using social media to spread awareness of their cause, but – according to a disclaimer on their blog – they use cellphones powered by Google.
